STD or STI
Difference between an STD and STI
By STD Concern
There is basically no difference between an STD and STI just small technical ones. STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Diseases and STI is Sexually Transmitted Infections. They are both umbrella terms for conditions that are passed from person to person through unprotected sex.
Venereal Disease
The old term VD (Venereal Diseases) had more stigma attached to it and was less defined, so it was changed to the more politically correct and specific term STD and STI.
Perception
When you tell someone they have a STI it often sounds less threatening then an STD. When you say STD, it always will connect to a disease. Most of these infections are diseases, but something like Pubic Lice which are a Parasite can cause an infection from their feces are listed as an STD because they do spread by sexual activity.

Conclusion
If you have been sexually active with multiple partners, testing is the only way to find out if you have a Bacterial, Parasitic or Viral infection and that would entail getting tested for multiple STDs at one time. If your partner has tested positive for an STD, you should probably be tested as soon as possible for that STD.
